Like Movie Stars

This morning we ventured to a large park which features a Friday market.  The kids munched on churros while we shopped for fresh produce.  Needless to say the sites and smells were so enticing; Abe is eager to try everything.  Then on our way back we picked up staples from a grocery store.  After settling our kitchen and eating our first real meal in our apartment, we ventured to a textile museum in an amazing building which also had an education center where a group of men and women were knitting, crocheting, and weaving on a back strap loom.  There was also a film crew acquiring footage for a promotional movie for Mexico, and they asked us to be in it.  We were filmed exiting the museum and smiling.

Next to the museum is a beautiful park with play equipment which the kids greatly appreciated.  I found a nice, cool spot to sit and sketch while Pat explored the recently restored 16th century building adjacent to the park. The building was the first convent built upon the site of the first human occupation of Oaxaca City.  There are archaeological artifacts in the basement.  Now it houses the Textile Museum, a chapel, and a reading room.

With Abe's insisting we eat "real" food, we shared three plates of tacos--al pastor, arrachera, and tinga plus four tall glasses of agua fresca.  It all hit the spot.  Also on the way home, we stopped for Mexican hot chocolate in Oaxaca's chocolate district.  Umm, Yumm!  Now for a late supper of homemade black beans, fresh tortillas, and salsa.
